⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ When Wonder Turns Uneasy

Jurassic Park pulled me in quietly rather than explosively. The early chapters take their time, building the tension - the lizard type reptiles attacking children. A dying man whispering the word "Raptor". And no one even thinking that it could be a dinosaur - how could it?!

What I appreciated most is that the story isn’t just about dinosaurs breaking loose, and not just on the island. It’s about people who genuinely believe they’ve thought of everything. Alan Grant feels grounded and practical, adapting as theory gives way to survival, while Ian Malcolm voices the uncomfortable questions no one really wants to answer. Even John Hammond comes across less as a villain and more as someone unwilling to let go of a dream, even when it’s clearly slipping out of his control.

In audiobook form, the calm explanations of genetics and systems make everything more unsettling. Hearing how carefully it was all designed only makes the collapse feel sharper. The tension builds steadily, and once it takes hold, it doesn’t let go.

The ending isn't the fairy tale ending of the film. And this book is definitely not suitable for children. But saying that it does answer a lot of the questions, the film didn't. All in all, an enjoyable, if not long read.
