(Valiant Vikings Book 2)
By Jennifer Ivy Walker
Review
⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Confident Blend of Legend and Romance
This book is comfortable sitting with complexity. People don’t always make the right call, alliances are rarely straightforward, and choices are made with limited information. That messiness gives the story a grounded feel, even with mythic forces pressing in from all sides.
Njörd is presented as someone others place their faith in without hesitation, which makes his quieter moments of uncertainty feel significant. He carries expectation as a burden rather than a badge of honour. Elfi, by contrast, is direct and uncompromising, shaped by a life where hesitation has consequences. She doesn’t soften herself to make others comfortable, and the story benefits from that honesty.
Their relationship develops in an instinctive, slightly uneasy way. Attraction is there early, but it exists alongside doubt, pressure, and the knowledge that neither of them has full control over what’s unfolding. The supernatural thread woven through their connection reinforces that tension, blurring the line between choice and destiny.
The mythological elements are folded into the narrative rather than announced. Fate interferes, prophecies surface, and supernatural beings shift events behind the scenes, rarely offering explanation or reassurance. It keeps the story unpredictable and gives it a subtle edge of unease.
The ending resists tidy resolution. Instead, it feels like a pause in a much larger story, with forces still in motion beyond the final page. It’s not designed to wrap everything up neatly, but to leave you curious about where things will lead next.
